About Us

Welcome,
we’re so glad you’re here

I’ve always believed there is something about being outside that changes the way we feel.

Our breathing slows. Our shoulders soften. We become a little more present, a little more connected to ourselves. There is something about stepping away from the noise of everyday life that creates space to simply be.

I’m Heather Vanderkam, a Registered Social Worker and Clinical Psychotherapist in London, Ontario, with 15 years of experience as a social worker. I’m also the founder of True Nature Outdoor Therapy, where I believe therapy should meet you where you are— emotionally and physically. Whether that means finding a quiet place on a walk or among the trees outdoors, settling into our cozy indoor office space, or connecting from home virtually.

During outdoor sessions- imagine stepping into the forest and letting the trees become part of your therapy. Beneath the canopy, with fresh air around you and earth beneath your feet, there is space to slow down, breathe deeper, and reconnect. As a Certified Forest Therapy Guide, I weave nature, movement, mindfulness, and stillness into our therapeutic work. There’s never any pressure to meet outdoors, but if something in you feels drawn to therapy in the forest, I’d love to invite you to experience it.

If you prefer to stay indoors, sessions take place in a private therapy office within the historic Elsie Perrin Williams Estate, surrounded by mature trees, natural landscape, and the Medway River Valley. Virtual sessions are also available when home feels like the right place to connect.

Wherever we meet, the intention is the same: to create space to slow down, understand what you’re carrying, and move toward meaningful change.

My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in compassion, curiosity, and evidence-based practice. I support individuals and couples who feel anxious, overwhelmed, burned out, disconnected, stuck, or simply tired of carrying everything on their own. Drawing from CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, EMDR, and the Gottman Method, we’ll explore what’s beneath the surface, understand the patterns keeping you stuck, and create space for meaningful change. Together, we’ll work toward feeling more grounded, connected, understood, and like yourself again.

Beginning therapy is a brave step. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes, you simply need a place to pause, breathe, and find your way forward.

Sometimes, the space we need to heal is found beyond four walls.

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”
